Empire Article about the Twilight Movie
Hahaha, that’s essentially what Robert Pattinson is saying…so funny! <3’s for Rob!
“When you read the book, it’s like, ‘Edward Cullen was so beautiful I creamed myself.’ I mean, every line is like that. He’s the most ridiculous person who’s so amazing at everything. I think a lot of actors tried to play that aspect. I just couldn’t do that. And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that’s how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he’s a 108-year-old virgin so he’s obviously got some issues there.”
Don’t get me wrong. I love Edward, but I do understand the complaints brought up against him. Regardless, this statement is many kinds of wonderful. ‘Edward Cullen was so beautiful I creamed myself.’ Oh hehe.
Anyway, one more bit of news to the growing pile of Twilight drama. I have a theory that the world is simply going to explode on the day the movie releases. The apocalypse is now, people!

Ah, but a happy ending it would be, if we got to die after seeing Twilight! I might just die of oxygen deprivition during the movie, though. It’s hard to breathe while your screaming!
But I agree, it’s a very funny statement. And I love the fact that he’s playing him a bit more angsty than in the book. I’m all for BellaxEdward angst! Squee!
Haha, thanks for posting this! I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise. I hope he doesn’t play Edward in a way that makes me hate him as well, though.
No problem, btw your dog is totally adorable. ^_^
The trick is that the book is entirely through the lens of Bella’s perspective, which is skewed. Thus, while not being Bella and looking through our own and her lenses simultaneously, Edward is the man (at his age we can call him this) many love to hate. Or love to love depending on whether or not you have Bella’s blood type and have thus succeeded in transplanting her eyes/brain into your own system.
Now, as far as the way he’s choosing to play Edward, it is a valid choice. Edward does show manic-depressive tendencies in the series, though they are more evident when he is trying to kill himself than in the first book. The reasons he give, however, are wrong. He shouldn’t be playing Edward as someone who hates himself because he, as an actor, hates Edward. I’ve played characters ranging from the normal set to heinous villains and even a character based off of Hitler. I, along with most people, loath Hitler, but while I was playing the Hitler-esque character, I did not play it as hating myself. Why? Because that wouldn’t be true of the character. Instead I played a serious man who for some reason believed that goose stepping everywhere was necessary.
Yes, I just wrote a long comment nitpicking what an actor said in an interview.
haha. I like all of what he said. It made me crack up. But, he shouldn’t be TOTALLY manic-depressive. He only sometimes shows signs of depression.
@lucidlunatic Haha, it’s okay. No one is going to vault you for that. Actors, like books, have the power to incite great passion and enthusiasm!
SHUT UP…
Oh yes, cause the all caps convinced me there. Shutting up now. Hah.
